Walking someone through their Discipleship DNA
A practical guide for a leader who wants to start discipling a few people with the two assessments and the DNA Story. What each piece is, where to click, what you will see as their leader, and what to talk about when you sit down together.
The three pieces, in order
Reveals a God-given archetype across four axes: how a person builds, speaks, is fueled, and sees. Each archetype is paired with two biblical figures.
Each question is a choice between two poles ("what stirs me more"). It surfaces the top three gifts and a gift profile.

Do them in this order. The Story cannot be written until both assessments are done, and the identity result gives the gifts result its context. Neither assessment is a test. There are no wrong answers and no score to beat, only a description to hold up and talk about.
Before you meet
- Each person needs an account. If they are not on the platform yet, send them your invite link from the sidebar (Invite a Friend) or ask your church admin to add them. They sign in at mkdscpls.com.
- They should be in a group you lead. That is what lets you see their results. If you are not yet their group leader, your church admin can add you.
- Know what they will see. Everything below is what a member sees on their own dashboard. The card labeled "Your Spiritual DNA" is where all three pieces live, and the sidebar has a direct link to each assessment.
Step 1. Biblical Identity
Where: sidebar, Biblical Identity, or the first row of the Spiritual DNA card. The intro page explains the four axes and sixteen archetypes; the orange button starts it.
The assessment is 36 situations spread across the four axes. Most are a choice among four responses; a few ask the person to rank four options. Tell them to answer as they actually are, not as they wish they were. That is the single most useful piece of coaching.
The result page names the archetype, the two biblical figures it draws on, and the four axis results. Below that are the person's signature traits, how they tend to respond in eight kinds of situations, and courses recommended for that wiring.
What to talk about
- "Read me the one sentence under your archetype. Does that sound like you? Where does it miss?"
- Pick one of the two biblical figures and read their story together over the week.
- "Which axis surprised you?" The four axes are where people usually recognize themselves fastest.
Step 2. Spiritual Gifts
Where: sidebar, Spiritual Gifts, or the second row of the Spiritual DNA card. The intro page lists the gifts; the button starts the assessment.
Eighty questions, each a pair of statements. The person picks which statement is more true of them and how strongly, on a scale from strongly one side to strongly the other, with a middle option when neither fits. Fifteen minutes is realistic. It is fine to split it across two sittings.
The result page leads with the top gift and a short definition, then the top three together, the gift profile they form, and how those gifts show up in practice.
What to talk about
- "Where have you already seen this gift at work, even if you never called it that?"
- "Who has told you something like this before?" Gifts are confirmed by other people, so ask who.
- Where could this gift be used at church in the next month? Small and concrete beats grand.
Step 3. The DNA Story
Where: the third row of the Spiritual DNA card, Your DNA Story, then View. Once both assessments are done, a single button writes the Story. It takes a minute or two. If the first reading misses, they can say what missed and have it rewritten, and they can share a read-only link or print it.
What to talk about
- Have them read the title and the first paragraph to you. "Is that true?"
- Go one movement at a time over a few weeks rather than all five in one sitting.
- The Story ends with growth frontiers. Pick one and make it the next month's focus.
What you see as their leader
Open Groups in the sidebar, then Manage on your group. Every member has a 🧬 DNA link beside their name.
The link opens that person's DNA page as their leader. If they have written a Story you can read it in full. If they have only done one assessment, the page says which one is still to go, so you know exactly what to encourage. You can also leave an affirmation on the Story, which the person sees on their own page.
Members control this. Sharing with church leaders is on by default, and anyone can turn it off in Settings under Privacy. If someone has turned it off you will still see their archetype and gifts, but not the Story, and the right move is to ask them about it in person.
A four-week rhythm for a few men

After that, the natural next step is a course taken together. Foundations is the usual first path, and the identity result page recommends courses that fit the person's wiring.
If something goes wrong
- The Story button is missing. One of the two assessments is not finished. The member's DNA card shows which.
- A result did not save. This happens when someone takes an assessment before signing in. Have them sign in and take it again; it links to their account.
- You cannot see a member's DNA. Either you are not a leader of a group they are in, or they turned sharing off. Your church admin can fix the first; only they can change the second.
- Anything else: use the Feedback button on any page, or write to [email protected].
